LSP Types

Please find below a list of the various types of Language Service Professionals (LSPs) that we can provide upon request:

1. British Sign Language/English Interpreters: Someone who is fluent in both British Sign Language and English and has undertaken a recognised Interpreter Training Course.
   
   
2. Lipspeaker: Someone who provides communication support to deaf people who use English as their first language. These deaf people chose to use Lipreading as their main form of communication. A Lipreader is trained to repeat what is said in a clear manner and without the use of voice.
   
   
3. Speech to Text Transcriptions: Someone who provides a real time written account of what is being said through the use of electronic technology. There are varying systems available that offer this type of service but all involve the use of an operator and technology.
   
   
4. Notetakers: Someone who has been certified in writing down praceed information in an accessible format for the deaf person. Some Deaf people who also use BSL Interpreters make use of this service, as it is difficult to watch the Interpreter and produce a written record of the event at the same time.
   
   
5. Hands On / Visual Frame Interpreters: Someone who has trained as a BSL Interpreter and has experience of working with Deaf people with limited sight.
   
   
6. Deafblind Manual Interpreter: Someone who is certified to work with deaf people who have little or no sight. These people have been trained to spell out what is being said on the deaf persons hand.
   
   
7. Deaf Relay Interpreter: A Deaf person who has been trained to relay information to Deaf Sign Language Users with minimal language or additional needs, to Deaf children, to children and adults with communication impairments, deaf people who do not know Sign Language, Deaf people with mental illness and Deaf people that use Visual Frame and Hands on Signing.
